Given the location, the designer’s brief was to create an experience that was an extension of that innate sense of revelation that is so common to the Kala Ghoda precinct, which offers an eclectic mix of spaces—from commercial to institutional to religious to restaurants & entertainment.

In a quiet by-lane, the two-storey, 1,600-square- foot store is located in an older, “metal-framed” building, that gives it the sense of fitting just right in the context of the heritage precinct. The sense of belonging is consciously enhanced further by the design direction followed. That, along with the designer’s aesthetic—a remarkable blend of craft with contemporary design that stems from a versatile pool of inspiration—led to an opportunity to innovate within the context. This is evidenced in the choice of materials, lighting and textures used in the store. Fluid, ever- changing and flexible, the layout of the space is as multifaceted as the designer’s garments it houses. True to the sense of discovery inherent in this eclectic neighborhood, the space is a revelation in the meandering by-lanes – a tranquil, soothing counterpoint to the vibrant, vital spirit of Kala Ghoda.
